Beverage Giant Lion Gets Hit By A Cyber Attack
On the morning of June 9, Australian beverages giant Lion was hit with a devastating cyber attack that took its IT systems down and halted their ongoing manufacturing operations. The company, which produces milk brands Dairy Farmers and Pura and XXXX Gold beer, is currently in the process of assessing the damage and bringing their systems back online. The nature of the cyber attack has not been specified.
“Lion has experienced a cyber incident and has taken the precaution of shutting down our IT systems, causing some disruption to our suppliers and customers,” told Lion’s public relations firm to The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age. “We are working with expert advisors to address the issue. We have alerted the authorities and are working hard to minimise disruption to customers and suppliers. We will provide further updates when we can, and we thank our customers and suppliers for their patience.”
Lion has approximately 7000 employees in Australia, all of whom lost remote access to systems Tuesday morning as a result of the attack. While Lion works to fix the damage caused by the attack, manufacturing has been paused, but they are confident that their stockpiles will be adequate to continue stocking products across the country in the meantime.
